This five day course is aimed at giving Yachtmasters the background for making ocean passages. The course covers sextant navigation using the sun, stars and planets, as well as world meteorology, the planning and making of ocean passages and satellite navigation. Students on the course are assumed to already have navigational skills to Yachtmaster Offshore standard. Course fee 695 Euros Plus examination fee payable to the RYA £93.00

After the shorebased course you will need to put your newfound knowledge to use and take some sunsights to the RYA for the full YM Ocean certificate. This submission includes an oral exam. The YM Offshore certificate is a prerequisite as is the completion of a qualifying passage of at least 600 miles.
