RYA / MCA Yachtmaster®
Offshore Exam Preparation Course
The first four days of this course
are spent preparing for the examination for the coveted RYA Yachtmaster®'
Certificate of Competence.
The course takes place on a twin
engine motor cruiser. Night exercises are included in the course to ensure that
all candidates are prepared for this important part of the course.
To be eligible you must have;
- Logged 2,500 NM. Half of these
must have been in tidal waters i.e outside of the Mediterranean
- 5 passages over 60 NM.
(Including two as skipper* and two overnight)
- 50 days at sea
- VHF/SRC Certificate
- First Aid certificate (STCW 95
or other recognised certificate)
- Knowledge equivalent to the
shore based RYA Yachtmaster Theory
*equivalent experience can be
considered
The qualification
is accredited by the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency and is emulated
throughout the world.
The certificates
of competence are required by commercial yacht skippers on UK registered
sailing and motor vessels under 24 metres and as entry to proffesional yachting
qualifications.
Additionally, many
recreational sailors also take the exam as a measure of their
competence. |
