Setting up an RYA Super Yacht PWC / Jet Ski Training Centre

In recent years, the authorities have put the responsibility on captains and crew to make sure their guests are proficient in the use of PWC’s and the regulations.  Captains can now be liable for any breaches of law regarding the operation of jet skis and tenders belonging to their vessel.  To help address this, yachts can become recognised by the RYA to run the ‘PWC Safety Course’ for guests, owners and crew.

After completion of the ‘RYA PWC Safety Course’ trainees receive an RYA certificate valid onboard the specified yacht.  This certificate is valid for one year for yacht crew, six months for regular guests and the duration of the charter for other guests.

What is needed to get a yacht recognised to run this course:

  • A crew member trained as an RYA PWC Instructor
  • One or more PWCs and relevant equipment
  • Safety cover in the form of a powerboat or tender
  • An operations manual stating how PWC operations take place onboard

We offer a consultation service to set up a training centre. This includes;

  • The joint production of an operations procedures manual
  • Assistance to complete the process of RYA recognition
  • Help to set up the ‘RYA PWC Safety Course’ for guests, owners and crew

Training onboard

‘PWC Instructor’ courses can also be arranged on-board. On board tuition minimises disruption to the yachts routine as key crew members can remain onboard during re-fit and shipyard periods. We can also use this time to advise in setting the yacht up as an RYA Training Centre.
